George TAYLOR was born in Mildenhall in 1891 (Mildenhall Q3-1891 4A:751), son of Thomas Richard and Alice MORLEY (née TAYLOR).
1901 census...Aged 10, he was in West Street, Mildenhall with his father Thomas R MORLEY [32] farm labourer; his mother Alice [32]; brother Samuel A [1]; sisters Margaret [8], Ethel E [6] Violet A [5] and Cecilia M [3 weeks]. All were born in Mildenhall. 1911 census... Aged 19 he is possibly the Private George Morley, 2nd Bn, Suffolk Regiment at Barrosa Barracks, Aldershot. His service number indicates enlisting early 1910. His parents were at Church Yard, Mildenhall, now recorded as born in West Row, with sisters Maggie and Violet entered as born West Row, brothers Samuel, Robert [9] and Richard [2], sisters Cissie and Hilda [6] all all entered as born in Mildenhall. |

He enlisted in Bury St Edmunds. He had served in the B.E.F. before going to the E.E.F.
The 1st Suffolks, with the Welsh Pioneers on the 3rd October had taken the village of Yenikoi but had to withdraw back to their original line at Mazirco, having tried unsuccessfully to take 7th kilo stone. Further attempts were made during the night of 3rd/4th but to no avail. Just before dawn "B" and "D" Companies moved out yet again to 79th kilo stone and this time the Bulgarians had withdrawn towards the foothills. The battalion was however not strong enough to follow up this success. CWGC records 12 killed, they all rest now in Struma Military Cemetery.
